Warning! Super-mega post below

Ugly Atonal Eighties Series
Wherein I attempt to document a little slice of time and place in the crawl to the new millenium around a segment of bands who shared a similar style and/or lyrical outlook.
The post punk American landscape spawned some mighty ugly music. Festering out of the hardcore punk scene, and perhaps due to punk establishing an orthodox, perhaps even fundamentalist ethos, bands came around that truly sounded threatening again.
It starts here:
Kill Ugly Index:
UGLY ATONAL EIGHTIES SERIES #1: Butthole Surfers
UGLY ATONAL EIGHTIES SERIES #2: Killdozer
UGLY ATONAL EIGHTIES SERIES #3: Scratch Acid
UGLY ATONAL EIGHTIES SERIES #4: Big Black
UGLY ATONAL EIGHTIES SERIES #5: Poison 13
UGLY ATONAL EIGHTIES SERIES #6: Shockabilly
This is a work in process and might be ongoing. your only warning.
If anybody would like to add to this, or see a glaring ommision, feel free to drop comments in this post and I'll respond accordingly as time allows.

Excellent posts and write-ups! Know and love them all except for Poisen 13, but I'll be digging 'em soon thanks to you. These bands operated so far into the margins at the time that there's not even an all encompasing term for this sound it today. I think I'll start using your description from now on.

Beleive it or not, nmany critics used the tag grunge to describe this and other similar forms of music.

You got three Texas bands but forgot the grandfather of them all, Stick Men With Ray Guns. They predated Buttholes and Scratch Acid.If you look around on their website you can find photos with Gibby and David Yow in their audience.
